There are two slightly different installation procedures required for installing 328 software upgrades: one for DOC-based (Disk On Chip) systems and another for Compact Flash card systems. All Blue|328 mixers prior to serial number 039 are DOC-based, while those with serial numbers including and after 039 are Compact Flash systems. Likewise, for Gray|328 mixers serial numbers before 025 are DOC-based, while those including and after 025 are Compact Flash based.

The only difference in operation between the two systems is the presence, or absence, of the (now-obsolete) Disk On Chip part on the OEM processor module. On DOC-based systems the operating code, alignment data and registers are stored on the Disk On Chip. On Compact Flash-based systems this data is stored on the Compact Flash card, and the Compact Flash card must remain installed while the mixer is running. Furthermore, because alignment data is stored on this card, the card that shipped with a mixer should remain with that mixer.

For both installation procedures, a Compact Flash card reader/writer on the host computer will be required for transferring the upgrade software to the mixer. Also, please refer to the important note on the software upgrade page concerning recommended brands of Compact Flash cards.

Disk On Chip Mixer Software Upgrade

  1. Download the new release.
  2. Unzip the release to a Compact Flash card.
  3. Power the mixer off, insert the Compact Flash, and power the mixer back on.
  4. Follow the upgrade instructions displayed on the LCD. The software will be copied to the DOC. The Compact Flash card should be removed after the installation is complete.

Compact Flash Mixer Software Upgrade

  1. Download the new release.
  2. Create a temporary directory on the host computer and unzip the downloaded release into that directory. Two subdirectories will be created: rli and linux.
  3. Power the mixer off and remove it's Compact Flash card.
  4. Copy the two files install.sh and upgrade.tar from the temporary rli directory on the host computer to the rli directory on the Compact Flash card.
  5. Copy the two files bzimage and rootfs.gz from the temporary linux directory on the host computer to the linux directory on the Compact Flash card, overwriting the two files present.
  6. Insert the Compact Flash card back into the mixer and restore power. The upgrade process will occur automatically, and normal mixer operation will resume once the upgrade is complete.
